I think that I could narrow the topic of abortion down to the time line of procedures for abortion and at what stage the fetus is at. Arguing the point that at what stage of abortion is o.k. to continue with and when is it just murder.

For Example:

**Fetal Facts**

*At 18-25 days a baby’s heart begins to beat and their brain starts to function

*At 11 weeks a baby can squint their eyes, make fists, and swallow

**Abortion Procedures at 18-25 days**

*You can have an early medical abortion(go into detail about the procedure)

** Abortion Procedure at 11 weeks**

*Suction Procedure( details about the procedure)

**Abortion Procedures during the 3rd trimester**

*Induction Abortion(details)

*Dialation and Extraction Procedure(details)

I chose the topic of abortion because it is often the a controversial topic with politicians or any leader in seek of office.  Your either for or against it pro choice or pro life; my whole thinking on the issue is people need choice’s in their lives, and it just so happens that abortion is one of those choices.  I have seen the pictures of aborted fetus’, I have seen the lengths that women take to abort their unborn child, I have heard about the case of Roe VS. Wade.  Do those facts really affect the reader or do the images traumatize a student looking at it on the internet?  Does all of this really matter in your decision on whether or not you are for or against abortion?  I can’t answer that question for anyone but for myself it really has no affect on me.  Now that might sound that I am a very cold person but when you hear the word abortion it just brings to the table all kinds of issues.

Another thing that I think some people often forget to look at is the definition of the word “removal of expulsion of an embryo or fetus from the uterus, resulting in or caused by it’s death”.  So if a woman decides to have her embryo’s removed and chrogenically freeze it for another woman to be implanted into, is that an abortion?  If a woman decides to carry the baby and miscarries, is that an abortion?  According to the definition it is, but some people don’t look at that they look at the surgical procedure.

So that leaves this writer to ask herself what exactly I think…  My feelings are as I stated above, abortion is an option that we have in our society.  I am neither for nor against abortions, I feel that if a woman is raped and it is just too much for a woman to bear a child that is a constant reminder of a tragedy then it’s o.k. And then you have these women that trea an abortion like it’s just a regular doctor’s visit 3 and 4 times a month or more in some cases, that is just wrong and a slow way to kill your chances of conceiving in the future.  This topic could go in so many directions, but which one to choose?

**Answers to the ?’s**

Are you writing on an issue that is actually controversial?

     * I think that abortion is very, very controversial.  It is often the topic up for debate between candidates in any type of election or campaign.

Are you conscious of both sides of the argument?

     * There is a definite line between pro choice and pro life, yes I’ve heard both sides of the argument.

Is this a topic that needs to be expanded ot narrowed so that you are not burdened with covering information in your essay?

      * This topics can be narrowed in several different ways.

           * Discuss the constitutional aspect of abortion

           * The health care industry that provides abortions

           * How some insurance agencies pay for Viagra but not the morning after pill or some birth controls

            * The dangers that some doctor’s are in for providing and performing abortions

            * Funding for abortions clinics

            * If you are raped or molested is that the only o.k. time to have an abortion?

{March 4, 2007}   Controversial Blog

I find that their many controversies in our society today, ranging from Britney Spear’s shaving her head, Anna Nicole Smith’s next of kin, and then there’s that war that we are still fighting in Iraq. Our whole society has become riddled with controversy, but which one to choose..?

If I had to choose here would be my top 5:

1.      Abortion

2.      Same Sex Marriage

3.      Should the war continue in
Iraq?

4.      Legalization of marijuana

5.      The use of standardized testing in schools, are they affective?

{March 4, 2007}   Ashley X

My feelings of this family are of great respect and sadness.  Unfortunately, Ashley will never grow and prosper as their other children will but I also found it very warming that her family is doing do much to keep her happy, healthy, and furthering her education.  Most families would give up on a child that would need that much attention and see it as a hassle and get frustrated very easily.  Any parent that would be faced with a decision of a hysterectomy and removal of her breast buds would be excruciatingly hard for any parent but these parents are doing what is best for their child to keep her thriving and happy.

My concern that I do have is why they would use the estrogen to stunt her growth.  I understand the menstrual cycles, the cramping I’m sure would be painful for the little girl, but I’m not clear on the height.  I think that if you wanted to bring up a “pillow angel” almost as close as you would to your other child at least give them some type of normalcy.  Even after reading the families reasons for maintaining her height I’m still not quite convinced that it was a necessary task.  Now, using the estrogen to maintain her weight I feel is necessary because a major part of the day is moving Ashley around so that she is stimulated, but for her height I’m not quite convinced.  I also kind of feel that stunting her height is her families lazy way of keeping it easy for them.  As a child grows you are supposed to adapt to their needs; by stunting Ashley’s growth they have catered to what they already know not even considering a chance to adapt new ways for her to bathe or sit in her wheel chair.  What if another family had their own “pillow angel” and were going to let their child grow and thrive, there would be no knowledge of how to do things for them.  A child can grow and still be able to control his/her weight. I understand the not controlling of weight for the increased chance of bed sores and sickness but at least give the child a little bit and let her grow.

This family’s story is wonderful.  It informs the reader of their actions, why they did things, and the fact to back up why it is necessary for them to do it. This story is a great source for other families with “pillow angels”.  It gives them an out for justifying their reason if they are faced with the same decisions that this family was faced with.  By justification I mean that everything that this family did for Ashley had a reason and purpose for bettering Ashley’s life. Again, I want to say that I’m still not 100% to agree with the height but that not my decision to make.  This family has done everything in their power to raise Ashley as normal as she can be, her families blog is a great resource for other’s to do the same for their own “pillow angels”.
